Newborn Photography: What to Expect During Your Session
(In-Home, In-Studio, & Outdoor Sessions)
Welcoming a new baby is one of life’s most beautiful, fleeting moments—and capturing those early days is something you’ll treasure forever. Whether you're planning an in-home session, coming into the studio, or dreaming of outdoor newborn photos, knowing what to expect can make your experience smooth, relaxed, and truly meaningful.
Here’s what to expect from each session type—and how to choose the one that fits your family best.
🏡 In-Home Newborn Sessions
Comfortable. Natural. Personal.
In-home sessions are ideal for families who want to capture their new life in the space they live and love. These sessions are lifestyle-focused, less posed, and highlight the connection between baby and family in a natural setting.
What to Expect:
- I come to your home with minimal equipment—usually just a camera, a few wraps, and natural light magic.
- Sessions take place during the late morning, when light is best indoors.
- We'll photograph baby in the nursery, in your arms, snuggled on the bed, or near windows.
- No need for a spotless house—just one or two clean, well-lit spaces are perfect.
- Siblings and pets are welcome (and often encouraged to join)!
Best For:
Families who love candid, heartfelt moments and want to capture baby’s first home.
🖼️ In-Studio Newborn Sessions
Classic. Posed. Peaceful.
Studio sessions offer the most control over lighting, temperature, and posing, making them a great choice for timeless, styled newborn portraits.
What to Expect:
- Sessions last around 2–3 hours to allow time for feeding, soothing, and breaks.
- The studio is warm, quiet, and fully stocked with wraps, headbands, props, and backdrops.
- I guide your baby through gentle poses, all done with their safety and comfort as the top priority.
- You can relax while I work—many parents even nap or catch up on messages during this time.
- Family and sibling photos can be added at the beginning or end of the session.
Best For:
Parents who want classic newborn portraits with soft posing, artistic detail, and no cleanup on their end.
🌿 Outdoor Newborn Sessions
Dreamy. Natural. Unique.
Outdoor newborn sessions are perfect for families who want something a little different—light, airy, and full of nature’s beauty. These work best in warm weather and for slightly older newborns (2–6 weeks).
What to Expect:
- We’ll meet at a quiet, shaded location around sunrise or sunset for soft, flattering light.
- You’ll hold or wrap baby while I gently guide your poses—these are more lifestyle and connection-focused than traditional posed images.
- I’ll provide wraps or neutral blankets if needed.
- Sessions are typically shorter (30–45 minutes) to keep baby cozy and content.
Best For:
Families who love the outdoors, want a relaxed session, and are open to natural, unposed moments.
